ilicon content is the primary defining element in
hypereutectic
pistons. It has been proven conclusively to give the best ring groove wear rates coupled with a low coefficient of expansion rates. Automotive hot rodders have known about this for decades.
Also, IMD's
modern construction techniques allow piston weight reduction while retaining superior strength. Piston weight is one of the most important factors in engine design. Piston weight is reciprocating weight. It directly impacts bearing loads, engine balance and maximum RPM (or redline). Lighter pistons equal lower loads on crankshaft  bearings.
IMD's hypereutectic pistons are a better than stock - yet economic - solution to piston replacement for non-racing use.
