    Description

Up for sale, a 1931 National Style O vintage single cone resonator in excellent condition, complete with a hardshell case. This very early 12 fret roundneck model has a nickel-plated brass body etched with National's iconic graphics of the Aloha Isles, retaining its original cone and biscuit with flat-cut F holes. Notably lightweight at 7lbs 3oz, this National has exquisite projection and bark with a sound that’s equal parts cutting and sweet. We've had this Style O professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with comfortable action and bronze 12-53 strings.
The maple neck has notable flame figuring along its length, with a substantial C-shaped profile carve and generous shoulder, measuring .895" deep at the 1st fret and 1.065" at the 9th. The ebony fingerboard retains the original bar frets which have been leveled and crowned, currently showing no wear. The guitar plays well up the 25" scale, and the replaced carved bone nut measures a full 1 7/8" in width. The slotted headstock retains the original open-gear tuning machines, fitted with a couple slightly different styles of white oval tuner buttons over the decades. The headstock face no longer retains its National waterslide decal.
The original spun cone is in great shape and rings like a bell. The bright chrome-plated trapeze tailpiece is a later replacement of the correct vintage style. The S-prefix serial number is stamped into the body near the rear strap button, placing production late in 1931. There is some oxidation on top, making the graphics present more faintly, while the tropical scene etched on the back really pops. Cosmetic wear is otherwise limited to some scratches central to the back, and a small spot of pick wear on the resonator cover. The neck profile is clean and smooth, with natural palm wear through the finish on much of the profile length.
A modern black tolex hardshell case is included.
