    Description

Up for sale, a 1930s Rosewood Dobro featuring an Adirondack spruce top, Brazilian rosewood back and sides, and herringbone binding. One of only a handful of Rosewood Dobro's known to exist (and Eric Clapton once owned one of the few), this guitar is simply as rare as they come, mirroring the tonewoods used in a Pre-War Martin D-28 and retaining the original stamped cone, furnished by Adolf Rickenbacker for Dobro.
The tonewood combination yields a sound that has more breadth and balance than Dobros constructed with birch or mahogany, and the sound has notable low end clarity and treble sparkle. It’s a sweet, authoritative sound that combines two otherwise disparate worlds of acoustic guitar playing. The guitar weighs 5lbs 5oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with action set at a perfect middle ground for both fretted and slide playing.
The mahogany neck has a deep V-shaped profile carve, measuring .980" deep at the 1st fret and 1.240" at the 9th. The bound Brazilian rosewood fingerboard has been professionally refretted with slender vintage spec fretwire that shows no wear, while the fretboard itself shows light wear into the rosewood between frets 1-5. The instrument plays cleanly up the 24 3/4" scale, and the carved bone nut measures 1 13/16" in width. The Dobro waterslide decal is mostly intact on the headstock face, and the original strip tuners are present too, still functioning well.
In addition to the Rickenbacker-supplied original stamped cone, this Dobro retains its original spider bridge, soundhole screens, Pat. Pending coverplate, and tailpiece. The coverplate is mounted with all modern screws.
The lacquer finish is original, exhibiting prominent strum wear and various nicks across the spruce top, with similar scuffs and marks of honest use across the back and sides. There is a repaired split across the neck heel, while the body is crack-free. The neck shows palm wear through the gloss central to the profile, and various dings and nicks running the profile length.
A modern hardshell case is included.
